Frequently Asked Questions
What is a denture reline?
A denture reline adds a fresh layer of acrylic or soft fitting material to the inside surface of your denture base to restore a snug, custom fit against your gums.
Why do dentures become loose over time?
After tooth loss, your jawbone and gum tissues naturally shrink (resorb) over time, causing once-tight dentures to slip and trap food.
What is the difference between a hard reline and a soft reline?
A hard reline uses durable laboratory acrylic for long-term fit. A soft reline uses a cushioned medical silicone liner ideal for sensitive or thin gums.
Can I get a denture reline done on the same day?
Yes! Thanks to our on-site dental laboratory, bring your denture in the morning and receive your relined denture back in the afternoon.
How often should dentures be relined?
Dentures should be professionally relined every 2 to 3 years to maintain tight suction and prevent sore spots.
How much does a denture reline cost in Melbourne?
Hard lab relines range from A$350 to A$550. Soft relines range from A$400 to A$600. VDS vouchers cover 100% of reline costs for eligible patients.
Will a reline fix a broken denture?
A reline fixes fit and suction. If your denture is cracked or broken, we perform structural acrylic repair prior to or alongside the reline.
Are denture relines covered by DVA Gold Cards?
Yes! DVA Gold Card holders receive 100% covered denture relines every 1-2 years with zero out-of-pocket costs.
How do I know if I need a denture reline?
Signs include needing more denture adhesive, food collecting under the base, sore spots on gums, or slipping while speaking or eating.
Does a reline change the appearance of my teeth?
No. A reline only affects the underlying fitting surface inside the denture; your smile appearance remains unchanged.
